to advance your woodworking skills:
37 Week Architectural Woodworking Program
Classes start September 9th, 2009
- Prepares both beginning and experienced woodworkers for careers in architectural woodworking.
- Also ideal for people looking to learn or upgrade
cabinetmaking skills for self employment or personal projects.
- Students will learn:
- The properties of wood and how to select and mill lumber
- To select and use veneers
- To read and create shop drawings and prepare material cut lists/estimates
- The safe use of common stationary woodworking machinery and portable power tools
- To use and sharpen hand tools, such as planes, chisels and scrapers
- A range of cabinet construction methods, including face frame, frameless and the euro 32mm system
- Cabinet joinery and assembly techniques, the selection and use of cabinet hardware, and cabinet installation
- The fundamentals of spray finishing
- Upon completion of basic skills training, students will work directly with members of the local community to design and build projects ranging from built-in cabinets for private residences to bookshelves and reception desks for public libraries.
